Signing MOU

On the morning of Mar. 22, 2011, Dr. J. V. Smallman, Managing Director of HR Wallingford Ltd., UK and her 3 colleagues visited NHRI.
Vice President LI Yun met with the visitors at NHRI headquarters meeting room and expressed his warm welcome to them. Director of NHRI International Cooperation Office and Dr. Smallmall introduced the development history and research expertise of their respective institution.
HR Wallingford Ltd. is now an independent non-profit private company with its predecessor established in 1947. Its clients include governments and public authorities, international funding agencies, public and private developers, port owners and operators, etc.. HR Wallingford Ltd. currently has over 200 staff and 6 offices and agents world-wide. Its annual turnover is £20 million, of which more than half comes from overseas market. Its technical areas cover water, floods, coasts, maritime and energy.
Based on the existing good cooperation, vice President LI Yun, on behalf of NHRI, signed MOU with Dr. Smallman, and had a in-depth discussion on future cooperation, which will involve ship simulation, monitoring and control instruments in labs, utilization of flood resources, dam risk analysis, pre-warning management of dam breach, standard of sea dyke, software development, jointly bidding for projects funded by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Fellows in charge of Department of Hydrology and Water Resources, Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Department of River and Harbor Engineering, Department of Dam Safety Management, and Department of Scientific Research Management attended the discussion.
On the afternoon of the same day, Director of NHRI International Cooperation Office accompanied the British visitors to visit NHRI Water Experiment Center.
